Sonja Sibert, current Vice President for Business Affairs at Great Basin College, GBC in Nevada will be joining Peninsula College community as the Vice President for Finance and Administration, VPFA.
“I’m looking forward to working at PC where the guiding principles are not just words on a webpage but are actually live and part of conversations and mutual respect,” she said.
Sibert has worked closely with the student government and faculty at GBC. “I have regularly attended student government meeting and sponsored activities and have acted as the Student Government Treasurer for the past years when the position hasn’t been filled,” Sibert said. “I like to get out of my office and wander around campus to talk to people.”
In the 10 years she has been at GBC, she stated that there had been many years of budget reductions, including the implementation of a new funding formula and cyclical enrollment patterns. One of Sibert’s achievements at GBC is she added new opportunities for students, including expanding online offerings.
Having a strong background in Human Resources, strategic planning, budgeting and accreditation, she will bring expertise with PeopleSoft software, said Peninusla College President Luke Robins.
She believes that her role as a VPFA is to collaborate with students, faculty and staff to move Peninsula College forward by looking at opportunities in a strategic, financially sound, and holistic manner.
“I look forward to meeting and getting to know the students, faculty, and staff at Peninsula, collaborating, sharing ideas, and experiences,” Sibert said.
She will officially start working at the college sometime in August.
