A devastating, high- speed attack propeled Peninsula women’s basketball team to their first ever champion- ship win in school history, in March.
And they plan to utilize that advantage again this season.
“We expect to play an up-tempo game, kind of like what we did last year. Pretty guard-oriented,” Head coach Ali Crumb said.
The Pirates return seven sophomores, including two all-conference guards. Floor general Imani Smith led the team in steals, assists, and was the 2nd leading scorer last year, and Zhara Laster, a rebounding machine who pulled down 8.3 boards pergame last season.
“We’re good at pushing the ball. That’s what coach puts emphasis on. We’re not taking plays off, we’re going. I think we’ll be good at that again this year,” Smith said.
Looking to build off last year’s success, Crumb has added a bevy of top-prospects to bolster an already potent lineup.
“It’s a team with a lot of potential. We have a lot of really good athletes. I think we’re deep. Crumb said.
“We’re deeper in the post-position, so we’ll probably rotate a little bit more, early, and see who does well for us,” she said.
“Right now, its just trying to figure out how to maximize our talent the best way possible,” she said.
