Pyramids, octopuses, castles and dragons. Sounds like a Disney movie right? No. It’s the tenth annual Lego building contest hosted by Peninsula College, in The Pub, from February 23rd to 27th. This year there were 13 entries eligible for prizes. Kids from the Educare Center also had some creations on display, for fun, that weren’t being judged. The 13 entries comprised of teams of students as well as single participants, with the largest team consisting of five members. The Lego Contest has been going on since 2005 and this was the largest turnout in a few years, according to Athletic Director Rick Ross. The contest, this year, was ran by David Walter and Imani Smith, who organized all aspects of the event. Prizes went to the top three entries with first, second and third place prizes, with the winners receiving gift certificates to The Bookaneer. There were five judges this year: an Associated Student Body member, a member of the faculty, a professor, a staff member, and a security guard. The third place prize went to Kelli Deboer. Second place went to the team of Travis Priest, Alex McCracken, Mackenzie Weston, Veronica Banks and Kari Larson. And the grand prize went to an octopus, built by the two-person team of Nessa Urban and Zavier Zarit.
