Casino Night Fundraiser tops 2019 by $20K

The Peninsula college yearly Casino Night happened at 7 Cedars on Friday Feb 26th. According to Rick Ross, associate dean of athletics & student life. It is a signature event that was put on with the help of Men’s Basketball coach, Donald Rollman, the Pirate Athletic Association Community Advisors Committee, the student athletes as well as Cedars Casino. The event is a way for the Athletics Department to bring in funding for athletic scholarships. Last year it pulled in $30,000. This year it was sold out well in advance. “We had about 200 people attend this year and we sold out a month before the event”, said Ross. “We netted about $30,000 in 2019 and came in at about $50,000 this year thanks to the hard work of the committee and our generous corporate sponsors and Pirate boosters.”
Pirate’s Women’s Soccer team scrimmages Vancouver Riptides

The Peninsula College women’s soccer team came out for a scrimmage Feb. 22, with the Vancouver Island Premiere League. These players from Vancouver Island, the Riptides, wanted to test their skills against the Pirate women as they had playoffs coming up the week ahead. These women were familiar with one another as they did this same kind of “unofficial scrimmage” last year as well. A few of the current Pirate players had even been recruited from the Vancouver team, which is how they got their start at PC. The Riptides The scores didn’t matter, just the performance did. Toni Powsey, Tommylia Dunbar and Maddy Stevens, who were previously recruited from the team even got the chance to play on the Riptide team as the team had been short a few players and requested the girls ahead of time, said Assistant Coach of women’s soccer Andrew Cooper.
Veterans Center opens providing community opportunity and resources

The new Veterans Center is located on the Port Angeles Campus in the Pirate Union Building, next to the Little Theater, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The center is available for use to any student on veterans benefits, It provides a quiet place for students to study and hang out. They also provide tutors from the tutoring program to allow students more one-on-one time when they need help for their classes. The center also has access to many local resources that could help with anything from obtaining money for rent for the month to getting their car fixed, Shae Pozarzycki, Veterans Navigator said.
