Relatable movie for everyone: ‘Abominable’

Every aspect of this movie has something that everyone can relate to. Whether it’s the loss of someone close to you, the need for friendship and adventure, or the talent you never knew that you had.
Abominable is a 2019 animated movie written and directed by Jill Culton and is rated PG. This is a perfect movie to sit down and watch as a family or with your friend group. It is full of friendship, love, hard decisions, family, and magic. It’s also the perfect movie for children since it’s very funny and engaging.
It’s an incredible story about three teenagers from China just trying to get a friend back home. In this case, that friend happens to be an extremely rare and magical Yeti! Yi, Peng and Jin try to save their new friend Everest from being unveiled to the world by a rich man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants, and a zoologist who isn’t what she seems.
While the movie is full of magic and humor, it’s also very relatable. In the beginning, we learn that Yi has recently lost her violin-loving father. After her father died, Yi carries his violin with her everywhere and plays the most beautiful music throughout the film.
While this film is full of gorgeous music, it is not a musical kind of film. We also learn that Jin is obsessedwith himself, vanity, and his growing popularity. Peng is a passionate basketball player and is absolutely in love with Yi’s Nai Nai’s pork dumplings. The three work together throughout the movie to ensure their own, and their new friends’ safety.
I very much liked this movie because while it was cute and kidfriendly, it was also very inspiring and uplifting. There were also moments of intense emotions and sadness. It’s also nice to be able to watch a children’s movie as an adult and be able to connect to it on a deeper personal level.
Abominable really felt like one of those children’s movies that was also meant to teach the adults that watch them lessons as well: lessons about how we treat one another and how to be a true friend to someone else who really needs it.
Abominable is available for purchase on Amazon Prime Video. I do believe that it’s the perfect movie if you love animation, tales of friendship, adventure, cute characters and music. This movie would be perfect for any family movie night or even a squad movie night with your best friends.
