Dianna Chiabotti was announced as the new dean of arts and science by Sharon Buck, vice president of instruction in a mass email. Chiabotti is also in charge of Basic Education for Adults, English as a Second Language, Intensive English as a Second Language, DEVED.
“Those who saw her in our interview process were impressed with her warmth, approachability, thoughtful answers, leadership, confidence, and broad range of experience,” Buck said.
Chiabotti said she initially wanted to move to Washington State to be closer to her family.
“However, what was really important to me was finding a college that provided a student-focused campus and also valued aesthetics in the learning environment.”
Chiabotti said she was intrigued by what I saw on the PC website and was excited to apply for the position.
“I was not disappointed when I visited the campus! It is a beautiful campus! And, everyone I met was student-focused,” she said in the email. “I can’t get enough of nature and the ocean.”
She also shared that she cannot leave a partial bowl of salsa on the table.
“ I love spicy food and salsa.”
Chiabotti currently serves as the senior dean of career education and academic pathways at Napa Valley College in Napa, California.
“She brings a rich match of experience that should translate exceptionally well to projects and conversations we are invested in as we integrate Pathways into our college,” Buck said.
Chiabotti said she is hoping that her deep value for education, and her belief that education gives people choices and options, and enriches all our lives will help me in doing good work for the college.
She will join the college at the beginning of the winter quarter.
