Peninsula College composite class set sail for
Charlotte, North Carolina to compete in the 75th annual SAMPE conference, May 22, 2019.

PC was the only two-year college to compete against 23 other teams from the United States and abroad.

Adam Jordan’s bridge
design took third place against UCLA, The University of Washington, Centro Universitário da FEI (Brazil), and other engineering schools.

“The SAMPE conference itself is full of cutting edge materials, tools, and technologies that really give us insight into how large the composite
industry really is,” Jordan said.

“1st place has gone to bridges with much shorter and lighter beams, so next year the Advanced Manufacturing students need to invest in some smaller tooling in order to remain competitive.

Composites Instructor, James Russell, said they will be getting smaller, more elaborate tooling next year.

The SAMPE conference allows students to see the bigger world outside, and that they can compete with much larger schools, Russell said.
