Currently in first place in the North Division, the Peninsula Pirates men’s basketball team is back to their winning ways after suffering a recent loss to the Shoreline Dolphins. On Saturday, the Pirates displayed a solid performance to earn a divisional win against the Everett Trojans.
From the beginning of the game, both teams exchanged leads and showed tremendous intensity.
The Pirates were up by three at the half, with score of 42-39.
Despite how close the game was, the Pirates proved to be the stronger team. Consistent on both offence and defense, The Pirates executed plays with great efficiency. The final score was 88-79.
Sophomore guard Jalon McCullough scored 23 points, pulled in four rebounds and added six assists. McCullough also proved to be effective from downtown, making four successful three-pointers out of seven attempts.
“It definitely felt great coming together as a team. We can score the ball for sure., but we have to be more sound defensively,” said McCullough.
Darrion Daniels scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
Omar Lo and Kevin Baker scored 15 points each. Lo collected three rebounds, while Baker took in seven.
This win means that the Pirates stand alone at the top of the North Division with a 7-2 record in league play.
The Pirates face the Olympic Rangers (2-7) Feb. 15, in Bremerton at 7:00 p.m.
