Saturday, October 8, at the City Pier in Port Angeles the Crab Fest 5K Fun Run was held. The event proceeds went to help student-athlete scholarships. Heavy rain was present, but the runners didn’t seem to mind.

Branden Rush, a participant from Victoria B.C. said, “I don’t mind the weather, it’s fine for running, but I feel sorry for the volunteers.”

The 5k race had a very diverse mix of runners ranging from children to older adults.

The two top runners were Ben Schauland, who came in first among men and first overall, and Julie Mccrorie, who came in first among women and second overall.

Schauland was excited to win the race and said, “I think I crushed my high school time,” he said right afterward. When asked about the weather, Schauland said, “I didn’t feel too good this morning, I had a lot of beer and ate a lot of crab last night, but the rain and cold really helped me out I think.”

Schauland also had two friends finished in the top 10. Scott Thiessen and Joe Martin. Both said that they were excited to run and enjoyed the race.

Peninsula Women’s Basketball coach Alison Crumb said after the race, “I think the event turned out really well, and I am excited for all the runners.”

The winners received two free crab dinners each and passes for the entire Men’s/Women’s Peninsula College 2016-17 season.
